Samsung Omnia i900

Its being almost 4 months for my new Samsung Omnia i900; recently have started tweaking it a little bit. The phone looks good with decent black color.

Recently I found that the phone gets heated by using USB or GPS for a longer time. The odd feature is GPS it allows access only through the MAP application "Route 66"; other than this there is no feature or application provided by Samsung to use GPS though there are plenty of 3rd party applications can be installed. Also, it takes too long for GPS to connect and some 3rd party applications are available who claim to connect faster after installing them.

I don’t find Today themes up to the mark as to compare with the themes and customizations provided by other phone manufacturers; the widgets bar is simply good for nothing. It just a feature to play drag-n-drop with. There are few other 3rd party Shells available for Omnia one of them is "SBP mobile shell" - after installation it consumes a little bit more battery power but worth it. Gives amazing 3D navigation to Omnia and initial today screen gets hidden (this is what I wanted.). Here I don’t want to talk much about "SBP Mobile Shell" let’s move further towards other features.

Menu - there is nothing innovative in Omnia; and if they claim that they have deployed an innovative menu style in Omnia it’s simply useless. The menu really irritates me - it takes almost half a second to list once the "Menu" is tapped. The touch flow between different Menu items is not so smooth as to compare with HTC and iPhone.

The best feature of this phone is 5.0 MP camera which comes with lots of options for taking images and videos; though there are no other useful applications available associated with Camera. Use of front camera is limited only to Video calls; you can not use it as web cam while chatting. I have used front camera of my "Sony Cybershot" as a webcam for chatting few months past.

Overall performance of the Windows OS is average; have observed the freezing of the screen several times. Even though it is claimed that the phone is touch phone and can be used with fingers; 70% of the features require stylus. The most annoying thing is "Close

[X]" button given at the top right corner of the screen; it’s next to impossible to tap it in first attempt with finger. And technically am not able to figure it out why taping the close button closes some applications and some applications simply keeps running in the background and eating the memory - these applications later can be seen in "Task Manager".

I think there is one manufacturing defect in Omnia; over a period of time or even its new the phone keeps switching off automatically and user needs to power it on manually - this is the most worst happened to me. One night I had a talk with my girl friend on phone and went to sleep; she again called after few hours and the phone was switched off till the next day morning. You can imagine what she might have thought about me? The reason behind this automatic switching off is the loose connection between battery and the connector; I inserted a piece of paper on the side of battery as a packing to make the connection tight - after this the phone never automatically switched off.

There is lot more to talk about good and bad experience about Samsung Omnia; will use it for few more days and come up with the new story.

Thanks for your time, Cheers..!
