the reliability of such services is questionable..!

Posted on by Blogbugger

The reliability of services like "pay for sharing images" is questionable..! couple of weeks past the shareapic.net’s servers crashed and lots of users lost their pics...

on the other hand they have kept the payments on hold; saying that they need money to fight the law suit..!

i have 2 blogs and all the images are hosted at shareapic.net now i have lost 60% of my images and links...

anyhow i can get those images from the back of my own. .shareapic dont have backup of those images :(

but.. now the rework for me is to upload all those images again to shareapic.net generate code and again edit my hundreds of blog posts to make all those broken images visible on blog.

do you guyz think i should start using shareapic.net again?? the answer might be yes, because they pay me for that.. but the real question is; "is that a good decision to trust shareapic again? what if the server crashes again?? why should i again waste my time and my blogs traffic if the disaster happens to shareapic again??"

friends.. do share your thoughts about this..! you can see both of my blogs suffering badly due to this http://sans24.blogspot.com and http://myblogfor-katrinakaif.blogspot.com/

Samsung Omnia i900

Posted on by Blogbugger

Its being almost 4 months for my new Samsung Omnia i900; recently have started tweaking it a little bit. The phone looks good with decent black color.

Recently I found that the phone gets heated by using USB or GPS for a longer time. The odd feature is GPS it allows access only through the MAP application "Route 66"; other than this there is no feature or application provided by Samsung to use GPS though there are plenty of 3rd party applications can be installed. Also, it takes too long for GPS to connect and some 3rd party applications are available who claim to connect faster after installing them.

I don’t find Today themes up to the mark as to compare with the themes and customizations provided by other phone manufacturers; the widgets bar is simply good for nothing. It just a feature to play drag-n-drop with. There are few other 3rd party Shells available for Omnia one of them is "SBP mobile shell" - after installation it consumes a little bit more battery power but worth it. Gives amazing 3D navigation to Omnia and initial today screen gets hidden (this is what I wanted.). Here I don’t want to talk much about "SBP Mobile Shell" let’s move further towards other features.

Menu - there is nothing innovative in Omnia; and if they claim that they have deployed an innovative menu style in Omnia it’s simply useless. The menu really irritates me - it takes almost half a second to list once the "Menu" is tapped. The touch flow between different Menu items is not so smooth as to compare with HTC and iPhone.

The best feature of this phone is 5.0 MP camera which comes with lots of options for taking images and videos; though there are no other useful applications available associated with Camera. Use of front camera is limited only to Video calls; you can not use it as web cam while chatting. I have used front camera of my "Sony Cybershot" as a webcam for chatting few months past.

Overall performance of the Windows OS is average; have observed the freezing of the screen several times. Even though it is claimed that the phone is touch phone and can be used with fingers; 70% of the features require stylus. The most annoying thing is "Close

[X]" button given at the top right corner of the screen; it’s next to impossible to tap it in first attempt with finger. And technically am not able to figure it out why taping the close button closes some applications and some applications simply keeps running in the background and eating the memory - these applications later can be seen in "Task Manager".

I think there is one manufacturing defect in Omnia; over a period of time or even its new the phone keeps switching off automatically and user needs to power it on manually - this is the most worst happened to me. One night I had a talk with my girl friend on phone and went to sleep; she again called after few hours and the phone was switched off till the next day morning. You can imagine what she might have thought about me? The reason behind this automatic switching off is the loose connection between battery and the connector; I inserted a piece of paper on the side of battery as a packing to make the connection tight - after this the phone never automatically switched off.

There is lot more to talk about good and bad experience about Samsung Omnia; will use it for few more days and come up with the new story.

Thanks for your time, Cheers..!

Some thoughts about search Engine Optimization tools

Posted on by Blogbugger

WEB CEO” is one of the finest seo tools; especially the datacenter feature makes it handy and usable anywhere. Partner search feature takes care of user behaviour and does not make the search engines angry. It comes in two versions free as well as commercial.

Internet Business Promoter - IBP” is another powerful SEO tool; works very fast. This gives the best & the most comprehensice SEO reports. Partner finder feature is outstanding. I have used this tool sometime back and the results were instant; within couple of days I saw the trafic growing on the website. Its commercial software – Must be the money…!

Thers is one more big name “SEO Elite” I don’t have much to write about it; will write something after getting hands on it.

Web Application Security Testing

Posted on by Blogbugger

For web application security testing Automated & Manual both approaches need to be applied. There are plenty of automated security testing tools available open source as well as commercial. Here in this article I will be discussing about some of the automated security testing tools which I have used recently.

Selection of the security testing tool was not so easy; even though there are hundreds of tools available I was looking for one which is reliable, well known, and having good and detailed report generating capabilities.

Finally I landed upon selecting Acunetix Web Security Scanner, Shadow Security Scanner, IBM Rational AppScan, Syhunt Collapse, and N-Stalker web application security.

All of them give almost the same results; there was the major variation in the results given by Acunetix. It provides the feature for recording user logins in online forms as well as http authentications. Runs very fast as to compare with the other tools. The results were not so complicated; it generates cool reports will all details. While analyzing the results the most helpful feature I found was the capability of showing “HTML Response”; Acunetix scanner shows the attack details as well as corresponding HTML Response in the same place; that helps a lot to understand what exactly happened during the scan. I give 9/10 to this software; the only problem I faced with this software is it crashed or handed my system couple of times.

IBM Rational AppScan looks good..! Yes it only looks good. It also provides the feature for recording user logins in online forms as well as http authentications. I saved the scanning profile on one computer and tried to run it again on another system it simply displayed the “Visual Studio debugger” and application stopped responding. I guess this is the bug with the release which I was using. This application runs very slow; it displays the splash screen for almost half a minute, especially when there is antivirus installed on the computer. It has an update features; it’s a different executable which runs at the program startup. Having separate ugly window for update only feels annoying. There is one feature given under the “Scan” is “Explore Only” means the program crawls the application under test and generates the results so called as “Recommendations” by “Evaluation Scan” which are scan configuration related. It’s simply eats up most of the time; once the recommendations are applied the scan starts again and the most irritating moment comes – it shows the “visual studio error” again and again after this there no way to use this application. It means you will have to wait for a comparatively longer time to see the actual scan results. I will give 4/10 for this application.

Using N-Stalker is all together a different experience; the program actually makes you feel of being part of the SDLC. The first screen of the scan wizard itself shows the phases where an application security testing has to be done or supposed to be done; select the desired phase and continue. It has a very strong report generation and analysis capability. Browser view of crawled web pages can be seen at runtime. Also, the identified vulnerability details can be seen as it is traced. Problem is it does not provide any feature to record user logins to online forms. Will give 8/10 to this software.

Syhunt Collapse and Shadow Security Scanner are good for Web Host Scans does not give any feature to record user logins. It generates good reports but the GUI needs to be improved. The software is not much user friendly would say not for beginners. An advanced user can get what he wants from this Shadow Security Scanner. For the technical details, attack database and execution speed will give 7/10 to both of these applications.
